Why Geodes Are the Hottest New Trend in Interior Design

With the Covid-19 pandemic came an increased desire for connection within our living spaces. So, it is no surprise that geodes are the hottest new trend in interior design. With their energy and ability to facilitate connection with your inner self and healing from within, geodes are the perfect addition to any space.

What are Geodes?

Geodes are hollow rocks lined with an inner layer of colorful crystals. On the outside, geodes look unremarkable—like an ordinary rock. But once you crack them open, you will reveal a cluster of sparkling crystals.

The Formation of Geodes

Geode formation is a complex and lengthy process. It starts with a hollow bubble inside igneous (volcanic) or sedimentary rock. In igneous rock, the hollow spaces form due to gas bubbles becoming trapped inside cooling magma. In sedimentary rock, the bubbles may occur due to animal burrows or tree roots. During the formation of the rock, tiny air bubbles surrounded by the rock are hot. When moisture is introduced, chemicals are released into the water. This mineral-rich water penetrates the outer surface of the rock and becomes trapped inside the bubble. Tiny crystals form inside the bubble and adhere to the sides. Over thousands or even millions, of years, layers of agate and quartz form inside the bubble. Geodes may have tightly packed crystals inside or a cavity with crystals lining the interior surface.

How Geodes Get Their Color

The color found inside geodes depends on the agate layer within the rock and the type of crystals that form on that agate layer. Usually, the agate layer provides most of the geode’s color. The color of that agate is dependent upon the distribution of minerals inside the stone. For example, if iron oxide and cobalt are prevalent, the inside of the geode will be red. If titanium is present, the crystals will be blue. Chromium and nickel produce green and manganese results in pink hues. The quartz on top of the agate is usually white or transparent, however, quartz may have some coloration, as well.

Where to Find Geodes

Geodes can be found anywhere, however, they tend to be more prevalent in desert regions. The state of Iowa has a large geode deposit and there is also a large cave in Ohio, the Crystal Cave, where tours are offered for visitors who want to learn about these sparkling rocks. Places known for large amounts of geodes include desert and central regions of the United States, Brazil, Mexico, and Australia.

Geodes usually form in crystal caves or vugs. Crystal caves are often hard to find because they are usually hidden and blocked off by tons of rocks. Scientists believe that these caves formed when seawater, with its high salt content, evaporated and left behind layers of salty sediment that, over time, hardened into a crystal. Vugs are thought to form when rock collapses. Often, they contain secondary minerals inside.

How to Incorporate Geodes into Your Interior Design

Geodes are a versatile addition to any home’s décor, so it’s no surprise that interior designers and homeowners have found many uses for the rocks. I have seen some homes styled in a more eclectic design, Moroccan style or with a Spanish influence that incorporates geodes. You can also incorporate rocks and minerals into a very clean beach house look. There are literally thousands of options when it comes to being creative with incorporating geodes into your home décor.

I like to break geode décor creativity into two categories:

1)Bringing in bright, lively stones,

and

2) Bringing in energy. You can match stones to paint and other colors in your home, but is that really going to bring the correct energy in?

How to Create the Energy from Home to Spiritual

A home is a place of serenity—your space that you created to be an outer expression of yourself, what you want in life, and what you want spiritually. Creating your home energy is vital because it transforms a house or an apartment into a home. Determine if you want a family home filled with love and peace, a space for a single person who wants to bring love in, or an entertainment home where fun and parties or deep conversations are important.

Once you have decided what you want, you can use the stones to bring that into your home, so that even when you’re not paying attention, your home is doing the work for you. That is why we use crystals—so that when you go in and place crystals with intention, they will help you unconsciously bring in what you want for yourself, your life, and every part of your spirituality.

If you are interested in learning more about incorporating geodes into your interior design and infusing emotional energy into your home, I recommend starting with my signature Energy Positioning Blueprint. This is an exclusive approach in which I will help you to create a home environment that boosts personal health, well-being, love, positive energy, and more. I will work with you to adjust your home and the colors within to not only match the stone colors but also to create energy using an energetic field from the stones, as well as the chakra systems within your body.

Incorporating Rose Quartz into Your Décor

Rose Quartz is fantastic for bringing rejuvenation, calmness, and love into your home. I especially love to use this stone in family rooms, bedrooms, meditation rooms, and living rooms. It all depends on how you want to elevate your home.

Incorporating Amethyst into Your Décor

Amethyst is a master healer and is another wonderful rock or crystal to use in the home. The crystals come in multiple colors, such as beige, green, light purple, violet, eggplant, and white. I believe that amethyst creates a shift within the entire home, bringing in positivity, and reducing anger and stress. One of my favorite qualities of amethyst is that it activates the third eye energy zone so that you become more imaginative and creative so that more ideas can brew within you and so that you are able to explore your connection with spirit.

Incorporating Citrine and Quartz into Your Décor

Citrine and quartz are amazing for bringing warm tones into your home. Citrine, with its white, brown, and yellow hues, brings out the core essence of who you are, and is also fantastic in business for bringing in money! Quartz, like amethyst, is a master healer. It works with your ethereal crown chakra and your old crown chakra, to bring in power, energy, and connection.

Those are just a few of the stones you can start within your home…there’s also:

– Black tourmaline for your entryway…

– Grounding selenite stones for EMS and 5G protection…

– Fluorite to bring in clearing energy and to activate all of the different energy zones in your body…

…I could go on all day!

Trending Geode Décor Pieces

Geode décor has gained significant popularity in the last year as the world struggles with the widespread effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. This has increased interest in creating positive energy and establishing new connections to the spirit within the home. In fact, crystals are the hottest product right now—I’m seeing it all over social media—due to their ability to help people form a connection to the spirit and increased concern with becoming more metaphysical and healthier.

Additionally, because everyone is socially distancing and spending more time inside, they want to create awesome energy within their homes.

Getting Started with Geode Décor

I am a fundamentalist, or in other words, I recommend getting started with the best, most accessible rocks that you can find. You don’t need exclusive, high-end stones to find the energy and connection to the spirit that you desire. Instead, you can use basic, yet beautiful and transformative stones in your décor to capture exactly what you want in your life.
