Most crystals travel long distances and may change hands many times before they reach their permanent owner. Throughout their journey to you, the stone may absorb a lot of energy, and in order to restore it to its natural state,…
- When I first moved to a home in Woodland Hills, I was working day and night, night and day. I felt like I never had a break. When I moved, I cleaned my crystals and then told each one that I was looking for a warm, inviting home that brings in serenity and peace.
I then noticed that visitors started to fall asleep because they felt so comfortable in my home. The feeling in my home was so magical that people would stay for very long periods of time and I loved every moment. I knew that the effect of the crystals was definitely working.
In light of the tumultuous events of 2020, more and more adults are turning their focus to the energy in their homes and within themselves. And with that newfound focus has come an increased interest in the power of crystals.
Quartz, which makes up approximately 12 percent of the earth’s crust, is considered a master healer and is known for its amplifying energy. It will absorb, store, release, and regulate the energy in your home, which is why it is my must-have stone for 2021.
What is Quartz?
Quartz is the second-most common mineral found on earth (after feldspar) and is found in all forms of rock (igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary). It is physically and chemically resistant to weathering, so when rocks containing Quartz erode, the grains of Quartz remain and become concentrated in soil, rivers, and on beaches. In fact, the white sand found on beaches and in riverbeds is usually made up of Quartz.
Pure Quartz is clear. However, variations in color do occur due to impurities. Purple Quartz is known as Amethyst, white Quartz is known as Milky Quartz, Black Quartz is known as Smoky Quartz, Pink Quartz is known as Rose Quartz, and yellow or orange Quartz is known as Citrine.
Quartz crystal can be found in many different countries and geological environments; however, it is most abundant in the United States and Brazil. Natural Quartz is rarely used as it is found in nature, except as gemstones because it tends to have so many physical flaws and chemical impurities. This is why “Cultured Quartz” was developed—flawless Quartz crystals manufactured through a commercial process that can be used in industry.
The Healing Properties of Quartz
I love Quartz for one specific reason: It works with your highest ethereal Crown Chakra as a master healer—in fact, it is arguably the most important crystal in healing. It is also trainable; so, after you clean and cleanse your crystals, you can ask what you want from the crystal and the Quartz will help you to manifest it.
Quartz crystal has an energy that heals and restores all of the other energy zones in your body. It works as a flow with spirit to connect to you to the ethereal side from the earthly side. Its clean energy also relieves pain, encourages healing, and cleanses the mind, body and spirit of negative energies and ailments.
Clear Quartz is the connector because it has no color. It is used to channel, transmit, cleanse and magnify energy, giving this stone many uses in healing, meditation, and spiritual work. It takes on the colors of your other crystals, which is why it can clear all Chakras and why many Reiki healers use them for healing work.
Quartz’s vibration is very high and depending on where your crystal is from—either Colombia, Brazil, Madagascar, China, Peru and Arkansas—it will have a special energy with a different feeling and healing power.
Varieties of Quartz
Quartz comes in many varieties, including the following:
The breathtaking beauty of Amethyst has made it one of the most popular varieties of Quartz for ages. This stone stimulates the Etheric, Crown, and Third Eye Chakras, fostering intuitive and psychic abilities, enhancing wisdom and cognitive perception, and comforting those who are grieving. It is also known for its ability to provide a connection to the Divine, improve creativity and passion, boost intelligence, manage overindulgence and evil thoughts, and provide protection from treachery and surprise attacks.
Found in Brazil and Madagascar, Elestial Quartz is clear, light to dark smoky, and occasionally amethystine. It usually appears as a layered or stacked group of crystals, displaying many terminations. This variety of Quartz is a source of comfort and balance and may be used to overcome emotional burdens and fear and open us up to change. It is a transitional stone and is thought to be advantageous for accessing and gaining a deep understanding of past lives.
Faden Quartz gets its name from the German word for fiber, which refers to this variety of Quartz’s string-like inclusions that run down the center of the crystal. It is used to increase the connection between spirit and between two people.
A colorless Quartz with inclusions of red Hematite flakes, Harlequin Quartz forms a strong connection between the Crown and Heart Chakras, which inspires love of life, strengthens our love for G-d, and grants us the ability to experience the sacredness of our existence. This variety of Quartz is found in Madagascar and usually appears in prismatic Quartz crystals.
Used for spiritual development, Lazulite Quartz is actually colorless or white Quartz with dark blue Lazulite inclusions. This special stone connects with and clears all Chakras, but also opens both the Third Eye and Throat Chakras.
A clear Quartz with inclusions of pink Lithium, Lithium Quartz is used with the Third Eye Chakra for powerful meditations, to open and heal the Heart Chakra, or to activate and cleanse all of the Chakras. Because Lithium is the same mineral used in prescription antidepressant medication, when it is combined with Clear Quartz, the natural antidepressant properties of Lithium are intensified.
Found in India, Rainbow Quartz, which is also known as Anandalite or Rainbow Druze, is a clear or white Quartz with rhodium inclusions that create an iridescent play of light. It appears in short prismatic crystals, typically as a Druze.
This special variety of Quartz awakens and clears all Chakras. If it is held long enough, one will usually reach a state of balance and neutrality. Rainbow Quartz fosters communication with nature spirits and is best used in meditation. This crystal may leave you in a blissful state, wide open and ungrounded, so it is important to ground yourself or hold a grounding crystal after meditating.
Rutilated Quartz, which is also known as Venus Hair Stone or Angel Hair Quartz, can primarily be found in Brazil. This variety of Quartz is colorless, clear or smoky, or (rarely) Citrine with red, gold, silver, or gray needle inclusions of Rutile. Due to its stunning appearance, Rutilated Quartz is popular for use in jewelry and décor.
If the Rutilated Quartz is smoky, it will calm and ground; if clear, it will bring clarity and amplifies the properties of the other minerals it occurs with. The Rutile in this variety of Quartz provides strength, power, and authority to the user while removing heaviness and allowing for lightness of the heart. It is an excellent antidepressant and allows the user to feel in control. Additionally, Rutilated Quartz of any color is excellent for combatting electromagnetic stress, likely due to the non-magnetic property of titanium.
The Chakra alignment of Rutilated Quartz depends on both the color of the Quartz and the color of the rutile. Gold Rutile aligns with the Solar Plexus Chakra, further strengthening the uplifting nature of the stone.
Morion, or Smoky Quartz, can be found all over the world. It is light to dark brown in color and usually appears in prismatic crystals with steep pyramidal terminations, however, it may also be bipyramidal or needle-like. This grounding, protective crystal has a gentle and friendly energy. It relieves pain and depression, strengthens the spine, and reduces both geopathic and electromagnetic stress. Smoky Quartz aligns with the Base Chakra and is valuable for those wanting to let go of old or unhealthy attachments, end relationships, or mourn a loss. It is also effective for treating addiction.
Also known as Hollandite Quartz, Starburst Quartz is milky white in color with tiny inclusions of black Hollandite that resemble 5-point stars. It is found in Madagascar and usually appears in individual Quartz crystals. This unique crystal lifts the spirits, generates hope, and stimulates drive and ambition. It strengthens the Solar Plexus and makes the Heart feel lighter. Starburst Quartz aligns with the Crown, Third Eye and Throat Chakras. It fosters spiritual and psychic development and can be used to create inner movement and realignment in meditation.
Found in the Himalayan mountains in Tibet and Nepal, Tibetan Quartz connects to all of the Chakras and cleanses, activates, aligns, and balances our energy. It is a clear Quartz that usually contains dark gray to black inclusions.
Although it is formed in many parts of the world, most Tourmalinated Quartz is mined in Brazil. This clear Quartz crystal grows together with black tourmaline and offers protection from negative thoughts and emotions, balances yin/yang energies, detoxifies the body and treats digestive disorders.
Quartz Shapes and Their Meanings
Quartz is found and mined into a variety of shapes, including:
Quartz spears are teachers of energy. They help us to magnify ourselves to hold the beautiful energy of G-d’s light and teach us about power and how to shift space and time.
Quartz points are the directors of energy. They will bring you exactly what you want, but you will need to direct the energy by explaining and being very thorough with exactly what you want.
Quartz clusters are a movement of energy. I recommend placing them in the middle or corners of a room to move the bounds of energy throughout the space. This way, you will never have stagnant energy. It also disperses our massive magnified energy, so it is important to make sure that when you are working with Quartz clusters, it is always in a positive light. It is definitely a crystal for very positive people.
Quartz Pyramids & Obelisks
Quartz pyramids or obelisks are statements of becoming a better version of yourself, growth, and evolvement.
Where does Quartz come from?
Quartz is the second most abundant mineral found in Earth’s crust and comes in many different varieties, as we discussed above. The major producers of Quartz are the United States and Brazil, however, natural Quartz crystal can be found in many countries across Earth and in several different geological environments.
Why Quartz is a Must-Have Stone in 2021
We’re living in trying times right now and the only thing that people should be working on is their spiritual connection to the divine. We should be working on connecting to our higher self, spiritual self, and G-dess self. With this connection, devotion, and surrender, we will understand how to be a conscious being on earth, bringing in light and love.
